I have seen so many videos with ways to start a fire. This is my preferred way. I take old candles that I have around the house and melt them into a stainless steel container. Then over very low heat melt that wax to liquid form. Then simply dip cotton balls into the melted wax and place them on a sheet of aluminium foil to cool and harden. Put them in a plastic bag for storage.
Separate, or open the cotton ball a little exposing the fibers inside and place it on a jute birdsnest. Or any small tinder. The jute birdsnest is just a little bit of jute twine separated and balled up and placed under the cotton ball. One or two strikes with a fire steel and you have fire. Simply start adding tinder to the fire to get a good blaze of wood going.
A cotton ball like this one will burn 6 – 8 minutes or even more.
