Some of you may remember mechanical keyboards. Many of you won’t. A mechanical keyboard is a loud noisy keyboard that was the normal keyboard with computers from the mid 80s through about the mid 90s.
After the mid 90s, most computer manufacturers went to electronic keyboards that had short keystrokes and silent mushy unsatisfying key presses.
Those of us who have been in the computer industry for many years generally love the long press keys and the tactile feedback of the mechanical keyboard. I do. I have gone through countless ergonomic keyboards, and flimsy electronic marshmellow keyboards. I grew tired of them.
When my most recent keyboard finally died and I was relegated to using a crappy HP keyboard I had found in my closet I broke down and bought a mechanical keyboard. It came in the mail today.
All I have to say is… Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…
First. It weighs. Its heavy. It doesn’t get push around on my desktop and I don’t have to keep adjusting its position. Its got some ass to it.
Second, the key presses are long. The way I learned to type.
Third, the sound. Oh yes the sound. You KNOW when you hit the keys. You hear it. CLICK CLICK CLICK
The sound… <<~~~~ Listen
Lastly, the FEEL. With its weight comes the feel of the heavier keys and the push back from the mechanical switches buried under each one. It lets you know its been pressed with a “tick” that you feel through your fingertips.
This is going to be a pleasure to use. A real pleasure. 🙂 I’m excited.
